Warwick

We arrived at Warwick just in time for lunch, and to watch the Royal Wedding on the big screen. I waved my flag. Then we had a look around the Castle.

We saw the Trebuchet, which worried me a little bit because I was just about the right size to be launched by it and when I went to visit Herons they built their own version and sat me in it!!

Then we watched the falconry display, I spent most of the time safely under Adam's buggy just in case one of the Large Owls or Steller's Sea Eagles took a fancy to me as a tasty snack. I can deal with Scouts and Explorers and even Beavers and Cubs, but birds of prey....

We climbed to the top of the tallest tower, (which according to fairy tales is where the princess should be), but all we found was a spectacular view, and some handy places to play hide and seek with Ethan. The Princess was after all in London having her Wedding reception, I was a day too late!

Ethan, who is a Beaver, was a little bit worried that I might fall down from my arrow slit, but I explained that monkeys are good climbers and there was no need to worry.

When we got down (after an awful lot of steps) we found another princess in a different tower. She was happy to see us.

Then we went down into the Gaol, where it was very dark and there was a hole called an "Oubliette" where they put prisoners. Akela joked that it might be a good place to put some of the noisiest Cubs! I am not sure though that the committee will agree to him digging one underneath our hut!

Thank you Akela, Gill, Ethan and Adam for taking me on your trip to the castle and to watch the Royal Wedding on the big screen. I had lots of fun and am looking forward to my next day out with your family.

Royal wedding

Two of the leaders took me out to celebrate the Royal Wedding.
I hope that whatever you are doing today you have fun.

Home again

Everyone is home, the kit is being unpacked
and washing machines are on. Thanks for a great expedition!

Scouts

The Scouts are back.

Explorers

The Explorers are back.

Travel again

Both lots of Scouts have made it to Corley - phew - and so both now have an ETA of 7.30pm.

Travel update

The minibus containing the Explorers has just left Corley services and is on track to be home at 7pm.

However the two transporting the Scouts are slightly delayed due to an accident – not them, I hasten to add – on the M54.

The first bus has just made it to Corley services having just missed closure of the road and now has an estimated time of arrival of 7.30pm at the Scout HQ.

The second Scout bus, which was about 10 cars back, was unfortunately stopped on the motorway because an air ambulance was being called in and so we have no ETA for that at present. I will update you as I get more information.

Leaving Wales

The fun of the beach is over, lunch has been consumed and we are just setting off for Wales. At this point in time our ETA is 7pm at the Scout HQ.

A picture speaks a thousand words...

...well five anyway!

So long, farewell...

Reflection and prayers

Softly falls the light of day

As our campfire  fades away

Silently each Scout should ask

Have I done my daily task?

Have I kept my honour bright?

Can I guiltless sleep tonight?

Have I done and have I dared

Everything to be prepared?

As the day drew to an end we gathered together for a time of reflection and prayer. The young people shared their thoughts and we spent a short time reflecting on the day. It was an Easter Sunday that most will remember for a long time, for many a reason.

Afterwards more Easter eggs were shared and as you can see I got to rest in a tree to take part in the Scouts' Own and then was left in peace for a short while with some chocolate whilst the sun went down.

As the expedition begins to come closer to the end (even though we still have a whole day to go!) thoughts naturally turn to what we have enjoyed. The young people seem to be of one mind and phrases such as "best trip ever", "a fantastic place to stay", "I love sleeping in the mill", The biking and hiking have been the best", "The food is amazing" and "when are we coming again and can it be for longer?" have been heard. The Leaders are in agreement; it has been a brilliant few days and everyone has plenty of memorable moments.

Tonight's food went down a treat, chicken curry or vegetable curry and upside down cake to follow. Plenty of clean plates and loads of seconds requested even if it meant eating more carrots!

Tomorrow will see us packing up the kit, tidying the mill and heading off for a morning of fun before returning to Ware later in the day.

Right now though I am off to join in the SingStar! Goodnight.

B is for.....

bath time

and be prepared.

I don't know what they mean but they tell me that these photos are a mixture of high spirits and Scout humour. Just as well it is time for Scouts Own!

A fun packed day

We climbed...

we caved...

we climbed...

We cycled...

and then we ate cake, played in the river, had water fights, swung on ropes and generally enjoyed ourselves.

Lunch

What a glorious day!

N is for.......not more carrots

O is for...oh yes even in curry.

Either our catering duo are determind to get 5 a day into the menu or they have got me mixed up with the Easter bunny!

Click on these words for A few good reasons to eat plenty of carrots.

Fun and food

The catering team are taking an hour out and have
visited the beach. They need to be back soon to cook
curry and rice followed by pineapple
upside down cake and custard.

Not before ensuring we all had an Easter treat
to take with us for afternoon tea.

Christ Church Ware

Outside the church
100 years ago 3rd Ware Scout Group was formed by Rev. Augustus Payne and several members of the congregation from Christ Church in Ware.

It therefore seems fitting that on this Easter Sunday the members of 3rd Ware, who are away in Wales, were remembered by the congregation and much discussion about the trip and the contents of my blog took place before and after the service.

Easter greetings were also sent from the service leader during the service...or so those back in Ware tell me.

Happy Easter Christ Church and thank you.

Bike, Climb and Cave

Easter Sunday activities include a  packed day of adrenaline inducing fun!

So far we have been split into five different walking parties; however today we come together, get reshuffled and are now in 3 groups who will all get to bike, climb and cave before returning to the mill for our Evening meal and an Easter Scout’s own. There may even be more cake involved at some point, well that is the rumour anyway (we all hope so).

Come back later to see what we have been up to and if the rumour was true.

Happy Easter

"He is Risen" is a traditional Easter Greeting
however we have been invaded by Golden bunnies!

Happy Easter

Dinner time

It is St.George's day and we are Scouts.

Our hard working catering duo dishing up our dinner.

Cottage pie, peas and .....carrots!

Auditioning for a part in Oliver after his chocolate pudding
with chocolate sauce. (He got seconds!)

Last night saw the opportunity to watch another film or just spend time chatting, playing etc. Tonight everyone is in high spirit and seems to have enjoyed their day. All achieved what they set out to do and have enjoyed sharing events with each other back at the mill. Tonight we have flag down, more entertainment and getting ready for tomorrow and a new set of activities.

How to relax after a walk in the hills -  part 1

How to relax after a walk in the hills - part 2

All parties are back and had another enjoyable day. An odd spot of rain here and there but nothing worth getting excited about or putting a coat on for! Mainly a fair day and just right for walking.

C is for.....

Carrots - 16 Kilos of them! We all need our 5 a day.

Cake - not part of the 5 a day.

Whilst we have been out on the hills our trusty cooks have been preparing our evening food. Lots and lots of carrots and St.George's Day cake for our afternoon tea. Which do you think the young people are going to prefer when we get back?

Do you come here often?

The Scout party bump into an Explorer party at the summit
of Snowdon and so settle down to lunch together.

"Probably the busiest mountain in Britain."

Four of the youngest members of the expedition
